It operates by providing direct flow <br />irrigation water. The ditch diversion from Alamosa River is in northwest quarter of <br />Section 1 T36n R7e NMPM or northwest of the community of Capulin, Colo.. The water <br />deliveries are through the 18,500 Un. Ft. ditch to the 1600 acre service area. The ditch <br />suffers extremely high conveyance losses. <br /> <br />Project Sponsor <br /> <br />The EI Viejo Ditch company is non-corporated and has eight different water users. The <br />EI Viejo Ditch has the power to set annual assessments to be paid by the water users <br />and the power to cut off water deliveries of those that fail to pay their assessments <br /> <br />Project Service Area and Facilities <br /> <br />The EI Viejo Ditch provides irrigation water to a 1600-acre service area in Conejos <br />County. The heading for the EI Viejo Ditch is located 4 miles northwest of the community <br />of Capulin, on the Alamosa River, and extends easterly approximately 3.5 miles. <br />Irrigated acreage within the service area is primarily used for small grains, spinach & <br />potato vegetable crops, and alfalfa hay. Hay crop is used as cattle feed, or is sold. A <br />map of the EI Viejo Ditch and photos of the existing diversion and a map of the service <br />area is attached. <br />
