Water Efficiency Grant Request from the Colorado Watershed Network

On July 18, 2005, the Colorado Water Conservation Board (Board) adopted the Guidelines for
the Water Efficiency Grant Program, which was established under House Bill 05-1254. House
Bill 05-1254 created the Water Efficiency Grant Program Cash Fund, to be administered by the
Board. The grant monies may be awarded to: 1) Covered entities to aid in achieving the goals
outlined in their locally adopted Water Conservation Plans; or 2) Public and private agencies
whose primary purpose is to promote the benefits of water resource conservation for education
and outreach aimed at demonstrating the benefits of water efficiency. Further, the Guidelines
define water conservation to mean broadly water use efficiency, wise water-use, water
trimsmission and distribution system efficiency, and supply substitution. The objective of water
conservation is a long-term increase in the productive use of water supply in order to satisfy
water supply needs without compromising desired water services.

Summary of ProDosal

The OWCDP received a Water Efficiency Grant application from the Colorado Watershed
Network (CWN), a non-profit agency located in Denver, Colorado. As an experienced
organization dedicated to promoting the health of Colorado's watersheds through nonbiased and
community based science and support, the CWN is dedicated to educating the youth of Colorado
in the importance of our water resources. The applicant proposes to develop and implement a
water education curriculum that will reach children, parents, educators, and communities, and in
turn foster a respect for water resources. The application is enclosed for your review.
