A comprehensive Statewide Water Conservation Public Awareness Research Study is
needed to help illustrate the importance of determining where Colorado citizens believe their water supply
comes from and how it is consumed and conserved. The research will pinpoint critical attitudes and
behaviors among Coloradoans and those affected by recommended best management practices. Analysis
of responses to this study would provide the necessary input to evaluate the potential effectiveness of
selected messages as part of a statewide water conservation public awareness campaign.

Background
The proposed study will facilitate the OWCDP ability to implement its statutory mission (~37-60-124 to
126) as it pertains to providing water conservation planning technical assistance including:

. Acting as a repository for water conservation information

· Disseminating water conservation and related information to water providers and the general
public

· Developing programs to provide technical assistance to and working with municipal, industrial,
agricultural, and other water providers as they plan for, evaluate, and implement water
conservation plans & programs

The need for this study is supported by past CWCB efforts and projects including the 2004 Drought &
Water Supply Assessment (DWSA), which will be updated in FY2007, and the 2004 Statewide Water
Supply Initiative (SWSJ Phase n, which is being followed up by current work being done on SWSI Phase
II.

Flood Protection.
