measurements at their pre-determined locations each month, through the .
course of the year.

National Science Foundati~n Cooperative Education Grant. The NRM
teamed with Mesa State University to develop a cooperative student and
faculty exchange program. The students and faculty from each institution
would seamlessly transfer and be able to complete classes and
environmental work as needed. One successful project has been secured
that entails the monitoring and evaluation or uranium mine tails waste
within the Grand Junction area. Funding for this effort may be provided
through a successfully procured National Science Foundation Grant.

Operable Unit 6 Radioisotope Trace Study. For the EPA, the NRM
designed, documented and completed the field work necessary to sample
groundwater throughout the California Gulch superfund site for
radioisotope content which would assist with the aging and classification
of the water. The effort entailed the development of a field sampling plan,
the completion of all field work including sample collection from surface
water and groundwater locations, in-situ water quality analysis, and
shipment and documentation of samples. Results will be used to
understand the hydrology of the groundwater associated with California
Gulch.

USFWS Passerine Bird Study: The CMC NRM is responsible for the field .
support of sampling of passerine bird species in order to obtain blood
samples for the analysis of enzyme inhibition. This is a direct measure of
metals exposure and possible impacts attributable to mine-waste
contamination.

Ie
