<br />. <br /> <br />Stations 1, 2, and 3 all <br />exhibited a decrease in the total <br />number of taxa observed in <br />2005. Station 1 decreased from <br />25 taxa in 1999 to 22 taxa in <br />2005, Station 2 decreased from <br />27 taxa in 1999 to 19 taxa in <br />2005, and Station 3 decreased <br />from 28 taxa in 1999 to 13 taxa <br />in 2005. Station 1 below the <br />Slate Creek bridge exhibited an excellent macro invertebrate community in 2005 equal to that <br />observed prior to restoration. Station 2 decreased in the number of taxa, BCI score and CTQa score, <br />but remains in the excellent category. Station 2 realized in-stream disturbance by others in 2004 and <br />the results indicate purturbation. Station 3 also decreased in the number of taxa and BCI and CTQa <br />scores, moving it into the good category. Station 3 realized disturbances due to in-stream habitat <br />construction activities by S.G. Company in 2005. The BCI scores already indicate improved <br />conditions with th~ number of insect taxa (diversity) slower to respond. Migration known as "drift" <br />is a significant re-distribution mechanism for aquatic macroinvertebrates. The rate of return for the <br />number of taxa (to pre-project levels) is related to the size and condition of the watershed above the <br />project. The Blue River is a regulated stream that has a large impoundment above this project. It <br />is reasonable to expect a slower rate ofretum to pre-project macro invertebrate diversity. This is the <br />primary reason for reduced number of taxa and lower BCI/CTQa scores in these lower stations. If <br />trends are typical of other restoration project Queen of the River Consultants has completed, these <br />stations will improve dramatically by the next time monitoring is completed. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />· Channel Stability/Fish Habitat: <br /> <br />Channel stability and fish habitat scoring sheets were completed at the same sites as in 1999:(1) <br />Upper above Hwy. 9 at power lines; (2) Middle at Bluffs; (3) Lower at Old Boundary. Channel <br />stability and fish habitat scoring sheets can be viewed in Appendix VI. Comparisons of 1999 and <br />2005 channel stability and fish habitat ratings illustrated in Table 1 shows that at all stations <br />conditions have improved due to the restoration activities completed. <br /> <br />Page 8 of 10 <br /> <br />. <br />
