5. Explain why you are requesting a grant, instead ofa loan. (the Construction Fund exists primarily to
provide low interest loans for the construction or rehabilitation of raw water projects. Non-
reimbursable investments are approved only when the project or study is of statewide interest and
benefits a wide range of people and organizations, and/or a large geographical area.

growth and improvement in the quality of life for Colorado citizens by providing sound
geologic information and new knowledge regarding the state's natural resources, including its
water resources. CGS does not have statutory authority to enter into debt.
Compilation and archiving of existing sources of ground water data facilitates data
accessibility, resource evaluation, and use of the information in future regional and local
water management decisions. This study will identify, compile, and archive bibliographic
information of existing data sources, with the goal of providing digital, geo-referenced data
access. Digital compilation in a geographic information system (GIS) allows users to easily
identify specific data sources to meet specific data needs.
The resulting deliverable product of this study will complete an initial data gathering
phase for a future decision support system for the Arkansas River basin and provide critical
ground water resource information for the SWSI process, Arkansas River 1177 roundtable,
ground-water professionals, water managers, and the public for researching information
related to the alluvial and bedrock aquifers with the basin.

Lower Arkansas River Alluvial Aquifer - Geographic, Digital Bibliography delivered to
CWCB staff on CD-ROM August 2006. This bibliography is scheduled to be published by
CGS as Information Series #74.

This proposal is an expansion of the digital bibliography project completed above. The
expansion includes 1) alluvial aquifers of major tributaries to the lower Arkansas River, west
of Pueblo Resservoir, 2) the alluvial aquifer of the upper Arkansas River watershed, and 3)
bedrock aquifers for the entire Arkansas River basin.
