.

removed sediment and no changes in water quantity or quality should be seen below Crystal
reservOIr.
g. The USFWS reported that 4 pikeminnow and 4 razorback sucker (all stocked fish from 2001 and
2002) used the Redlands fish ladder in July and August. Stocking continues and larval razorback
sucker have been found for 3 years, indicating stocked fish are returning and spawning.
h. The fish screen at Redlands diversion dam is almost complete. Redlands continues to divert
through their bypass but will soon decide whether to operate the fish screen manually and use
their regular diversion structure or continue to divert through the bypass until the SCADA system
is installed on the fish screen.
1. The CRWCD has received an NRCS grant to integrate water quality and other data for the North
Fork of the Gunnison into a GIS format.
J. UGRWCD has closed the sale on Meridian Lake and dam rehabilitation is underway. UGRWCD
also reported working with the North Fork of the Gunnison on augmentation plan education.
k. CDOW requested flows of approximately 550 cfs between September 26 and 29 while they
conduct their annual fishery inventories. CDOW has acquired new sampling equipment for this
effort that allows the work to be done over a wider range in flows and adds flexibility to
operations of the Aspinall Unit during this work. CDOW also indicated some willingness to
adjust the survey dates a few days as well. All attending were most appreciative of this
cooperation.
1. With respect to the Aspinall Unit re-operations EIS, work on the alternatives is progressing very
slowly given the vast differences of opinion on how the reservoir should be used and operated.
Work in the Hydrology Committee is also progressing slowly with differences of opinion on how
to incorporate the flow recommendations in the model given the footnotes included in the
recommendations. These footnotes have an effect on the data used, model operations and how
the output is displayed.

.

Aspinall Re-operations EIS: Meetings with the cooperating agencies are scheduled for
September 26.

AspinaU Foundation Memorial: Prior to the end of the previous fiscal year the CWCB awarded the
Wayne Aspinall Foundation $5,000 for its educational activities.

As a result of the award, and the contributions of others, former state senator Tillie Bishop informed me
that most of the memorial, landscaping, electricity and water, are in the finishing stages at the Aspinall
memorial site in Palisade.

The foundation is waiting for Colorado Rose Granite to be shipped to place it on the memorial. Wording
on nine individual plaques has been approved by a subcommittee and the Colorado Water Conservation
Board will have its name inscribed on one of the plaques that will become a permanent part of the
memorial.

The Foundation's Board of Directors will be sending out invitations for the dedication when a date has
been set.

Platte River Basin

Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Study: Executive Director Russell George recently spoke at a
Greenway Foundation event held at Confluence Park in Denver to celebrate accomplishments along the
South Platte River corridor and to lend further support for the Chatfield Reallocation project. In addition,
Congresswoman Diana DeGette spoke at the event and provided her insights to the merits of water supply
. and environmental efforts along the river corridor.

25
