Total use by single-family accounts is significantly higher than
other account types and temporal variations in water use patterns are evident.
Use in the winter and early spring is low, peaks in the summer, and decreases
over the fall and early winter months. Increased use during summer months is
due to outdoor water use, principally for landscape irrigation. Outdoor usage
(estimated) accounted for approximately 45% of the total annual water usage in
2000. Conservation of outdoor water offers a large potential for water savings
and many of the conservation measures described in section 2.3 assist residents
in watering their landscape efficiently. In 2004, outdoor water use (estimated)
accounted for 37% of total annual water use, a significant drop from 2000. This
decrease illustrates the effects ofthe City's conservation and drought measures.
Variations in the weather patterns may also have contributed to the decrease in
outdoor usage. Figure 2 also shows the relative total use of water for each
account type.

Single Family
- - - Townhome
-Apartment
--*- Commercial/Industrial
__ Municipal
-+-- School

2002 data not
presented

0
0 0 0 0 0 0 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ .., .., .., .., .., .., ... ... ... ... ... ...
'i' 'r 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i' 'i'
c ,.. :; "- is c ,.. :; "- > c .<: ,.. ,.. Single-family home accounts used by far the
most water each year, much of which is outdoor water use. Apartment and
commercial/industrial accounts used similar amounts of water and were the next
largest water users. Municipal, schools and townhome accounts were also
similar and used the least water.

7
