Currently
the town provides water to several individual homes adjacent to the town limits, a water
and sanitation district consisting of approximately 150 people, a hospital and nursing home
facility; and within it's boundaries, the county courthouse, school district #7, and town
parks, as wen as it's residential and business community citizenry.

Under construction at this time is a phased project of six, four unit apartment complexes.
We also have a subdivision with a potential of 114 water taps to provide for in the next few
years, the first of which is to come to fruition early in 1997. The Del Norte public school
district is currently under construction of it's third new building facility in three years.

The potential exists for many more additional homes requesting to join our water delivery
system. These potential customers aloe located in the "Pinos Creek drainage" area within
unincorporated Rio Grande County. Several subdivisions are currently being planned in
that area and we have a wate.. transmission line from our water treatment plant located 6
miles into that drainage area which has good potential for providing water for many of
those properties.

In 1994 the town board recognized several problems within our water delivery system.
They included waste of water, too much water pressure which contributes greatly to the
waste of water problem and a problem in providing adequate volumes of water in various
areas of town. According to averages referred to in A WW A manuals, the Town was
bordering on being in the 95th percentile of water used per individual. The board felt that
was outrageous and something needed to be done to curb the waste of water. The board
ordered a study of our water system needs through Davis Enginee.'ing Service. That study
was completed in August 1996. Almost at the time of the completion the board received
a request for water purchase and delivery from two developers who were planning a 30 unit
homesite development just west of our water treatment plant. That study was also
conducted by Davis Engineel"ing Service, Inc.
