.-

FLUSH VALVE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
PROJECT SUMMARY:

Purpose:
Little Thompson Water District wants to work with all tapholders in the district to
determine if they have leaking flush valves in existing water closets and offer an incentive to
replace defective valves. We are proposing to mail out as part of our normal billing a card with
dye tablets to be used to check for leaking flush valves. The card will also have some simple
questions about the home, test results, and actions. The cards will have only 5-6 questions and
will include return postage. We are also proposing to offer a limited quantity ( +/- 1,000)
replacement valves. We will tabulate information on the returned cards to determine the
effectiveness of the program.

Need:

Water in Colorado is a limited resource and the public needs to be educated and
encouraged to use the limited natural resource wisely. A leaking flush valve could waste as much
as 75,000 gallons in a single year (200 gallons a day). Little Thompson Water District needs to
help educate the public about the benefits of water conservation and offer our water users the
tools to test for leaking flush valves and help with the repairs.

!mPlementation:

Resource: We are proposing to purchase and mail our over 4600 custom printed cards
with dye tablets to all of our tap holders. The card will have information on using the dye
tablets, and about the cost of water lost through leaking valves. The card will also have a
portion that can be mailed back to the district office. We want to have about 4-5 questions
on the card that will help us to determine the effectiveness of the leak detection project.

The cards will have return postage and some example questions are listed below:

o
o
o
o
o
o

Did you use the dye tablets to test your toilets?
Did you find any leaks in your toilets?
Would you like a Free * replacement flapper valve?
Now many bathrooms are in your house?
Have you installed any water conservation showers or faucets?
Do you have a lawn sprinkler system?

YES
YES
YES

NO
NO
NO

YES
YES

NO
NO

. The quantity of Free replacement valves is limited and requires that you return this complected card.
