Y-W Well Testing Association proposes purchasing a laptop <br />computer, portable printer and necessary software. Y-W Well <br />Testing Association has been in existence since 1986. Y-W <br />Well Testing Association serves the counties of Washington <br />and Yuma and is sponsored by five soil conservation <br />districts. The Association tests irrigation wells for land <br />users to determine the well's efficiency. Then a report is <br />prepared for the land user showing ways of improving his <br />well. Many times the staff project reducing water use by 30 <br />percent, reducing energy use by 50 percent, and reducing <br />energy costs by 45 percent. within the past three years a <br />gypsum block program has been conducted for monitoring soil <br />moisture allowing land users to enhance their irrigation <br />timing. <br /> <br />Association employee, Conrad Bauer, now travels to the well <br />site which may be only two miles from the office to one <br />hundred and twenty miles away to test wells. Many times the <br />land user is present at these well tests. Then Conrad will <br />take the data collected at the well site back to the office <br />to analyze on a desktop computer. After analyzing this <br />information, Conrad then has to locate the land user to <br />explain the results of the well test. It would increase <br />Conrad's efficiency to be able to analyze a well test on <br />site and produce a high quality report within minutes. It <br />is evident that if Conrad had a laptop computer and portable <br />printer, he would increase the amount of wells tests done by <br />33 percent. <br /> <br />Over the years the Association has improved the methods and <br />increased services to the land users. Gypsum blocks are now <br />used to test the soil moisture available to the crop. This <br />allows the land user to time his irrigation closer to the <br />needs of the crop. This service also has been performed <br />manually. Conrad will read the gypsum blocks and that <br />reading is analyzed as to the percent water in the soil <br />profile. These calculations take approximately 20 minutes <br />per site, still producing an inadequate report for the land <br />user. conrad now has to copy the report for his records <br />manually also. This takes place in the remote countryside. <br />However, this program can be easily computerized so Conrad <br />can read the gypsum blocks, enter the data, allow the <br />computer to process the data and utilize the portable <br />printer to produce a quality report for the land user. <br />
