"

WATER & SEWER DEPARTMENT

1000 10TH STREET, GREELEY, COLORADO 80631 (303) 350-9812

June 29, 1993

Chris Bridges
Water Resources Specialist
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1313 Sherman
Room 721
Denver, Colorado 80203

Dear Ms. Bridges:

This letter is intended to express the City of Greeley support
for the University of Northern Colorado's application for funding
of a feasibility study to investigate the use of non potable
water for irrigation of the UNC Campus. From our discussions
with Mr. Douglas Stutler, UNC Vice President of Administration it
appears that there is a high probability of improving irrigation
efficiency and that an excellent opportunity for significantly
reducing water costs for UNC exists. In addition, the use of non
potable water on the UNC Campus for summer irrigation of green
areas would reduce peak loading on the City of Greeley Water
System saving future capital expansion costs, and reducing
present treatment and energy costs.

The UNC application has merit from many standpoints. UNC already
owns water rights highly suitable for non potable irrigation.
Addi t ionally, the cost of producing treated drinking water is
ever increasing due to stringent water quality standards of the
Safe Drinking Water Act. In summary, the UNC proposal is an
excellent opportunity for conservation of resources. If the City
of Greeley can be of any assistance regarding this project or if
we can provide any information, please let us know. I may be
reached at (303) 350-9815.

Sincerely,

~~~
Gauthiere, P.E.
of Water Operations, City of Greeley Water Department
cc: Mr. Douglas Stutler, UNC
1989
GREELEY
t...ft.~
ALL-AMERICA CITY
"llf~
"
