Dear Ms. Petrone,

The University of Northern Colorado has been actively involved in environmental
education including water education for many years. In the past 7 years UNC has
supported water education in Colorado by providing the state coordination for Project
WET (Water Education for Teachers) curriculum. Project WET has been incorporated
into our K-12 educator training program and we recommend it as a high quality program
with a record of success. While we do strongly support water education and have
committed resources to provide coordination of volunteers and dissemination of Project
WET materials, we are limited in resources to provide the support for a statewide .
program of water education that meets the ongoing educational requirements for
experienced teachers.

In that light and as the current statewide coordinator for Project WET, 1 do support the
request by Colorado Watershed Network for funding to hire a water education
coordinator to work directly with teachers throughout the state. Specifically, I am
committing a component of my service time over the next year to provide pre-service
(student) teacher coordination as a match for funding from the Water Efficiency Grant
Program.

Please lend your support to this wonhwhile effort to provide support for a framework of
water education for teachers and students from elementary through high school.
