DeWeese Dam is a concrete masonry structure which consists of an
original structure built in about 1903 and two raises of the dam by four feet and eight feet
constructed separately in years between 1903 and 1931. The present dam has a height of 63 feet
and impounds about 4,000 acre-feet of water which is used primarily for agricultural purposes.

The issue of concern is the condition of the top 12 feet of the dam which show considerable
spalling and cracking. The dam is not now under restriction by the State Engineer's Office but
the dam inspector for Division 2 is concerned about the integrity of the structure during a major
flood event.

The Company has retained GEl Consultants of Englewood to conduct a feasibility study to
include an assessment of the dam and an analysis of alternatives for any rehabilitation work that
may be required,

DISCUSSION

The first part of the feasibility study consisted of borings in the upper portions of the dam and
laboratory analyses of the material in the top 12 feet of the structure, This work was completed
in June of this year at a cost of$19,500. The company received a CWCB Small Dam Site grant
of $5,000 to assist in this part of the study,
