The Pine River Canal Company tunnel hill project is located 8 miles southeast of Ignacio, adjacent to
State Highway 151. The Company operates the canal and supplies water to 215 shareholders for
irrigation within the 13,377-acre service area. The tunnel is in poor condition and the Company plans to
replace it with a new pipeline structure in 1999. The average annual volume diverted is 71,400 acre-feet.
The Pine River Canal Company is a mutual ditch company and a nonprofit corporation registered in the
State of Colorado. Gary Jennings of the La Plata County NRCS has completed the feasibility study.
Proposed funding for the project consists of a CWCB loan for $243,700, and $81,850 from the Company.
