Groundwater Appropriators of the South Platte <br /> <br /> <br />.f'l ~..oj ,.,' , <br />( r, :"~ " '-'1 ~ l :..,t, <br />~_;. ..... .'~ ,,~ '.. .4 <br /> <br />GASP is an important component for almost all other recharge <br /> <br />projects in the South Platte River Basin, GASP does not implement its own <br /> <br />recharge p~ojects, Instead GASP encourages the development of recharge <br /> <br />projects t~rough purchase of recharge credits. The recharge projects are <br /> <br />owned and operated mainly by ditch companies, with a few operated by <br /> <br />individual. farmers, GASP purchases recharge credits in excess of <br /> <br />augmentation requirements from these irrigation companies and private <br /> <br />individual~. As a result, these recharge projects linked to GASP are the <br /> <br />The region covered by GASP encompasses the entire South Platte River <br /> <br /> <br />most develOped and economically stable recharge projects in the South Platte' <br /> <br />River Basin. <br /> <br />Basin. However, recharge projects associated with GASP are only in Water <br /> <br />Districts #1 and #64 from Hardin to Sterling. In Water District #1, ditch <br /> <br />companies primarily operate the recharge projects, These ditch companies <br /> <br />have the nece~sary facilities and manpower resources to conduct the recharge <br /> <br />operations, Ditch companies that conduct recharge projects are (1) Bijou <br /> <br />Irrigation 'Company, (2) Fort Morgan Reservoir and Irrigation Company, (3) <br /> <br />Pioneer Wa~er and Irrigation Company, (4) Upper Platte and Beaver Ditch <br /> <br />Company, (5) Lower Platte and Beaver Ditch Company, and (6) Riverside <br /> <br />Irrigation Company. Each of these ditch companies operate multiple recharge <br /> <br />projects. In Water District #64, most of the recharge projects are operated <br /> <br />by indi'VidUal farmers, In addition to the recharge projects sponsored by <br /> <br />GASP, it also has 16 large capacity wells which it uses to augment flow in <br /> <br />the South Rlatte River and three irrigation canals. A description of the <br /> <br />recharge projects linked to GASP is given in the following sections of this <br /> <br />report. <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />
