April 1975 I SUMMARY SHEErS Dallas Creek Project LOCATION West-central Colorado in Uncompahgre River Basin of Upper Colorado River Basin. . i I PLAN I The Dall~s Creek Project would develop water of the Uncompahgre River and tributaries for municipal and industrial use and irrigation. It would also provide benefits to recreation, fish, and flood control. It would incidentally result in some highway improvements. , :1 , ,,' ::;~ili ~: ~;-~ "~~~- storage would be provided by Ridgway Reservoir on the Uncompahgre River and Dallas Divide Reservoir on Pleasant Valley Creek. Natural supplies at both reservoirs would be augmented by flows of other streams conveyed to the reservoirs in feeder canals. The reservoirs would be interre- lated in operation but Ridgway Reservoir would primarily serve Uncompah- gre River Valley and Dallas Divide Reservoir would primarily serve Log Hill Mesa rising above the valley on the west. Additional supplies for the mesa would be provided by pumping of natural streamflows from the Un- compahgre River and Dallas Creek through the Ridgway Pumping System and by development of local streamflows on the mesa. Irrigation supplies on the mesa would be distributed by the project Log Hill Mesa Distribution System which would consist of two small regula- tory reservoirs and buried pressure pipe laterals to facilitate sprin- kler irrigation on the farms. Irrigation supplies in stream valleys would be distributed in existing gravity ditches. The Tri-County Water Conservancy District or the water users would be responsible for facili- ties necessary for diversion, treatment, and distribution of municipal and industrial water. Recreational facilities would be provided at both Ridgway and Dallas Di- vide Reservoirs, and a dead and inactive pool specifically for recrea- tion would be provided at Ridgway Reservoir. To provide access for fish- ermen, easements would be acquired along stretches of the Uncompahgre River below Ridgway Dam and along the upper portions of East snd West Forks of Dallas Creek. Also plans are made for a fishing lake in the Un- compahgre River drainage. Land would be acquired and developed for wild- life habitat to mitigate project-caused losses to wildlife. Crossings for game would be included in the construction of project canals.
