Bear Creek Reservoir and Bear Creek/Turkey Creek

Inflow Monitoring' Program, Southwestern Denver

Metropolitan Area, Colorado

INTRODUCTION

The monitoring stations include sites on Bear Creek Reservoir and two

stream-inflow sites for the major tributaries Bear Creek and Turkey

Creek (Figure attached). The reservoir and upper drainage basin are

located in the southwestern part of the Denver metropolitan area. The

monitoring program is expected to be a task which DRCOG will hire a

subcontractor (consultant).

The program is divided into three (3) technical tasks, and a

field/ supervision/ data- reporting task as described below. The specific

water-quality variables, sample locations, site-visitation scheduling,

and a special bathymetric-survey study for this program have been assumed

as per the guidelines provided in the Certified Federal Register, Volume

45, No. 25, Tuesday, February 5, 1980, Certain aspects of this program

(specifically, Tasks 1 and 2) are expected to require several years of

intensive monitoring at the designated sampling sites and analyses of the

resultant data. Any recommended program modifications beyond the scope

of this proposal after the fi rst monitoring year would be discussed and

negotiated in a contract renewal between DRCOG and its consultant for

subsequent monitoring years.

OBJECTIVES

The overall project study objective is to establish a water-quality

monitoring program that determines the processes controlling the

transport and fate of solute loadings, with an emphasis on nutrients,

34
