Walker <br />Deputy Director <br /> <br />FROM: Bill McDonald <br /> <br />DATE: April 29, 1983 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 13, May 5, 1983, Board Meeting-- <br />Colorado River Basin salinity control program, <br />Paradox Valley Unit <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />The Paradox Valley salinity control project will involve <br />the pumping of approximately 2 cfs from a series of wells located <br />along the Dolores River in Paradox Valley. This will draw down <br />the interface between the underlying salt dome and the bed of the <br />river, thus reducing salt loading to the river. The brine so <br />pumped will be disposed of by deep well injection. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation received conditional decrees for <br />19 wells in Case No. W-3549 (Division 4). They have now filed <br />for a plan of augmentation/change of water right (Division 7, <br />Case No. 83CW45) for those 19 wells plus 5 more. The Bureau has <br />taken this step after discussions with the State Engineer and me. <br /> <br />The plan of augmentation will cover the out of priority <br />diversion by the 19 wells previously mentioned. The replacement <br />water will come from the water rights which have been <br />historically used to irrigate lands to be inundated by McPhee <br />Reservoir.
