6.2.1 Ream 1

Reach 1 c:aended from Island Park (RM 333) to Split MountaiD Canyon (RM 327). Four backw.uers were
sampled in this Reach. River ice conditions in included minim.1 shoreline ice formed !he last weele of January
wilb surface ice rarely c:aending more than a metef from shore. Small amountS of fraziI ice were observed
Ihe firsl week of February. No ice jams were observed in this section. Ice accwnuJations slowly decreased
after peak formation the Ml weele of February. MOSI ice was absenl by the last week of February.

Slle 1: Sile 1 was a downstream orienled chute cbJInnellocaled in Island Parle (RM 332.0). This backwaler
bad an area of 130 m' apd a maximum depth of 2.0 ft. By February 3, changes in cllannel morphology
bad eroded most of lbe babitalleaving only 20 m' of lbe original batlcwarer. This reduction in size
c:xceeded the minimum habital requiremealS. Noae of the original backwater remained by the second
sile visit. .
