!

o
,')
"*'"
.~
00
w

PRESENrATION

BY
PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY OF COLORADO

RE

DUPLICATION OF TRANSMISSION LINES

PURPOSE The pUrpose of this statement is to
call the attention of CGngress to the
unnecessary transmission lines propo~ed
to be constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation in connection with the Colorado-Big
Thompson project to serve the cities of Fort Collins, Loveland, LODgmont and the
Union REA:near Brighton. These lines were designated in the 1950 Appropriation
request ot the Bureau of Reclamation as follows:

.~

Brighton.V$1mont-Flatiron-Fort Collins
Greeley Tap 115 Kilovolt Line
Greeley-Brighton 115 Kilovolt Line
Sub-total . Duplicating Lines
Estes Park~Val.mont 115 Xv Line
Total - Unnecessary Lines

Total
Estimated
Cost

Appropriation
Request
1950

$1,996;200
989.531
$2,985,731
532,500
$3,518,231

$
~
$.

661,000

661,000
108,000
769,000

The first two proposed lines will constitute a duplication of this Com-
pany's facilities which are fUlly capable of serving these. communities. The last
mentioned line is unnecessary because the Company is ready, able and willing to
construct, At its own expense, all facilities needed to interconnect the project
wi th its Va'l.mont Plant.

The use of this Company'S existing facilities as proposed herein, instead
of building: duplicating lines, will accomplish all of the purposes of the Reclama-
tion Acts with resp.ect to "preference customers" and at the same time will:

1. SAVE $2,625,731 IN CONerRUCTION coers.

2; INCREASE BY $166,287 TEE ANlWAL INCOME AVAILABLE FOR
AMORl'IZATION OF PROJECT,

By: permitting the Company to build the Valmont connections a further saving
in constrUOtion cost .of $532,500 will be realized.

!
2
g
.
!
.
.
~

In view of the fact that the estimated cost of the Colorado-Bi Thom son
ro ect has :risen from 00 000 at the time of its authorization to a . resent
fi of 1, 1000 ever e:f'f'ort allould be made to take advan e of feasible
plan to redUce this over-all cost and he'lp to contribute to the repa~nt of the.
project. .

1
