5354

"
\
,

Appendix 2 - Arapahoe County Water and Wastewater
Authority (ACWWA)

District Boundary/ Service Area

ACWW A (through its predecessor agency) was fonned in 1979 to serve a primarily commercial
customer base adjacent to and east of Centennial Airport in south central Arapahoe County.
Recently, there has been a considerable number of higher density residential uses developed in
the eastern sections of the District and this is changing the pattern and magnitude ofwatcr
demands served by ACWW A. The service area of the Authority extends from the Arapahoe
County/ Douglas County line north to the Cherry Creek State Park at Cherry Creek Reservoir and
from Centennial Airport cast to Parker Road. Approximately 550 acres west of the Cottonwood
Water and Sanitation District's service area are included for water planning purposes by
ACWW A. Cottonwood data is separately reported in Appendix C. For planning purposes,
ACWW A data also includes adjacent areas in Douglas County that arc being considered for
incorporation with ACWWA's service area. The service area includes 5,132 acrcs.

Water Use Patterns

ACWW A employs a water resources managemcnt strategy where the limited water supplies that
are available locally are conserved and the costs ofpotablc water treatment and distribution are
minimizcd by developing a nonpotable water system for irrigation purposes.

)

Currently, ACWW A delivers approximately an average annual demand of 1.8 million gallons per
day of which 46% is for indoor purposes and 54% is for outdoor purposes.

Pumping potable water supplies from non-tributary wells and nonpotable water supplies from
shallow alluvial wells along Cherry Creek provides water supplies within ACWW A. ACWW A
operates an Augmentation Plan on Cherry Creek where wastewater plant discharges and lawn
return flows are exchanged for waters pumped from the alluvial wells. An emergency inter-tie
with the potable water distribution system for Cottonwood Water and Sanitation District can be
used in cases of equipment malfunction or to meet other short-tenn emergency needs.

ACWW A reuses its treated effluent from the Lone Tree Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility
through summer irrigation of the Valley Country Club golf course and other outdoor areas of the
largest 25 commercial properties. This reduces the total potable water demands on the non-
tributary groundwater resources. An average annual non-potable demand from treated wastewater
and untreated alluvial groundwater has been estimated as 2,500 acre-feet per year in 2015 and
3,900 acre-feet per year at build-out.

Historic and Future Water Usage

For planning purposes, ACWW A projects water demands based on 2.9 people per SFE for single
family residential uses, 2.2 people per unit for multifamily residential uses and an occupancy Tate
for commercial properties of one person per 200 square feet of developed property. Projections
for commercial properties assume a 25% building area to gross property acreage.

)
