Letters to President Carter are needed now in support of this courageous
move toward stopping wasteful and destructive water projects. Many members of Congress
are furious that their sacred projects have been cut and the dam builders are mobi-
lizing to override the President. Conservationists snd other taxpayers have been
working for years for a complete reassessment of bad federal water projects and reform
in the Bureau of Reclamation and Corps of Engineers. This could be the best chance
and perhaps the last chance we will have for a long, long time. Please write or send
a telegram now to:

,

The Honorable Jimmy Carter
c/o Frank Moore
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D,C. 20006

Send a copy to your Senators and Congressmen.

*The Colorado Pr01ects

A group of conservation organizations including Colorado Trout Unlimited, the
Environmental Defense Fund, the Colorado Open Space Council, the Wilderness Society
and Sierra Club, have asked for a comprehensive review of the Colorado River Storage
Project (CRSP) which is made up of some twenty. four component projects in the Colo-
rado River Basin including the three mentioned above. Many of the twenty-four
projects have already been constructed and construction of the remaining components,
including seven within the state of Colorado, would change the whole character of
the Colorado River and would have considerable adverse and interrelated environ-
mental impacts. These seven projects include Animas-La Plata, Dolores, Dallas Creek,
Fruitland Mesa, San Miguel, West Divide and Savery-Pot Hook.

Copied:CWCB:tam
