Requiring submission of environmental <br />impact statements to the commissiOl'ler for any <br />major proposed project. <br />. Helping countiE'S pay for adequate local <br />planning offices. <br />The questions came up as the rommission <br />presented its $370,000 bud~et request for the <br />1913.197-1 fiscal Yf'ar - a $10,000 decrease over <br />the present budget. <br />Budget committee chairman Sen. Joe Stv.le- <br />maker, R-Denw!r, toIrt the ag1'ncy's officials he <br />wantl'd Lo knO\v what the Rgt'ncy hall done and <br />will do bE>fore hmdlng it. <br />At one point. Shoemaker told commission <br />members that it appeal'$ they wt're largely <br />duplicating efforts of otht'r government agt'n- <br />cles, such as in .identifying flood plains. <br />"I am rapidly drawing tht' opinion that this <br />is tl useless exercise," he said. "I wish some- <br />one would refute me." <br />Olalnnan John Crowley responded by say- <br />Ing the rommlssion wasn't aUl'mI>ting- 10 "draw <br />hard lines" but rather come up with a slate <br />planning process and identify areas of potential <br />problems. <br />RE!'II.
