Tomorrow's Range
By ....ABGABET REYNOLDS
Coordinator; Colo. Farni Power Council
I have just' comp~eted several weeks of, demonstrations on the
electronic range,_ and would like to tell you some of the "fantabulous"
things this new range of the future can do.
Fit'st of all, thls Is probably the
most revolut,(onary method of cook-
Ing we have knQwn to date. In the
electronIc range we cook with hlgn
frequency waves--not with heat.
Vacuum tubes caUed magnetrons,
br<!adcast or e_mlt these high fre-
quency waves. These waves pene-
tmte:the food and cause 'friction be-
tween the mol~es that ~ke up
the tood. This fl:lctlon, il\ turn, prl;lo-
duces heat-ancln Is this heat that
rooks the food.
It takes only 15 minutes to bake a
potato-whlch Is', Cl?~derably less
time than the <<3 to 80 ri1htutes we
ordlnarUy give a potato to _ bake.
can you really believe that In, 45
minutes a 13 pound ham Is cooked
and ready tor the table? Truth.
tully, I couldn't until I did It. More
juices are retained In cooking elec.
tronlcally-ao the ham was deJic1oUll.
Be<lause thelll! high trequency
waves' bounce ott metal, no metal
utensils ot any klnd are used In Utls
range. The waves wID penetrate p~.
per, glass, c~na, and plastlcs--so all
C<Ioklng . may be done on paper
plates-or the dinner plate on which
you wlllh. to serve the meal. Just
think ,what this means In saving
time and d11$.washlngl
It you wish,. your-:trozen, vegetable .
118n be cooked rtrht in the package
alt you take.It tram, the freezer. It,
will - take approximately 5 minutes
tormostve~tables.
ThiS ral)ge la something to
"dream" about ,since cost at pro-
duc~(jn Il1tlkes It rather costly at
pni!sent. "However" we do have our
beautUul. shiny - e1ectrll'l ranges that
