In a relatively short <br />span of years, a high academic reputation has been established. <br />Young people from outside the Southwest come to study and stay on <br />after graduation to become a part of the surging population. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Scientific--Few regions in the free world have a greater con- <br />centration of scientific minds and production than the Pacific <br />Southwest. Economically favorable conditions first attracted the <br />aircraft industry years ago. Today, modern technology has <br />fostered the growth of highly organized research, development, and <br />manufacturing communities. Everything needed by the industry can <br />be fabricated within a few miles of its final assembly. Products <br />range from exotic rocket fuels to almost rnicros~opic electronics <br />components, which are produced in modern, air-conditioned, color- <br />coordinated plants. These vital enterprises, and others, will <br />require an enduring supply of water. <br /> <br />1-13 <br />
