.

.

Paradox Valley Unit

I,ell Field Pump Testing Program

The pump testing program began in November 1978 when test

"ell 2el was initially pumped. This well was pumped at a rate of

S~O gpm from ~ovember 1978 to March 1979. The pump was shut down

to facilitate installation of equipment in the well field and

because pump test data interpretation showed little apparent effect

on the brine levels or inflows to the river. But recent interpre-

tation using additional data shows that salt pickup throughout the

wel1 field was reduced during the pump testing period. Notice the

January and February 1979 levels of salt pickup as compared to the

seven year average on attached Figure 5.

The installation of all electrical, pumping, and pipeline

equipment was completed throughout year 1979. Pump testing was

started in December 1979 with test wel1s lOW, 7W, 6E, 7E, and 8E

in the downstream (lower) well field producing 150 gpm. This

operation was continued through January 1980 with little or no

noticeable changes to brine levels or inflows to the river.

Several wells in the upstream (upper) well field were put into

production in February. Test wells lW, 2W, 3W, 4W, and 2E along

with the lower "ell field wells were producing a total flow rate

of 570 gpm. In March, all the test wells were put into production

with the exception of 2Cl and 2E which developed pump and motor

o Qr4l3
