.

SAN MIGUEL PROJECT

C"j
~
--
. .

o '

c

Features for Rescoping Study

The area proposed to be served by the reconfigured San Miguel Proj ect

offers opportunities for maximizing development of high elevation runoff and

all gravity systems without resorting to high lift pumping plants or tunnels

as proposed by various Bureau of Reclamation studies. There is however, a

great deal more irrigable land than there is water to serve it from these

sources. Rescoping and analysis of potential development in the project area

will identify the more promising and cost effective features for early

development and others which could be deferred but still retained as a part

of the overall plan. The level of investigation performed under the study

program should be varied so that the concept of phased development can be

implemented.

The study process should also take full advantage of work which has

already been done so that time and money are not wasted in restudying plans

that have previously been found totally impractical.

The following discussion identifies the individual features proposed for

inclusion in the revised project. The order in which they are listed

suggests the initial emphasis that they should receive from detailed

feasibility level analysis for those near the top to preliminary or

reconnaissance level near the bottom. A brief discussion of each phase

follows the priority list.
