'JOe"
,.....) U.L

-31-

The directors of the First National Bank of Fort i.;organ wish to take an unequivocal
stand in opposition to the construction of the NarroVls Da'll or any other dam on the
"latte River in Horgan County for the foUm'1i.ng reasons:

~,
'f
I,

1. Loss of the rich ~:.reldona farm land vlhich would be eliminated by the water
would be irreplaceable.

'.:

2. Several other sites for placing a dam in the South Platte River would be
more feasible in Weld County.

3. We believe the entire country would obtain more direct benefit from the
placing of smaller dams on the tributaries of the datte P,iver rather than
a massive dam of the i-'latte. For example, we favor placing of several darns
on the headwaters of the Bijou and Kiowa Cree~s for flood control. This
method would allow the water to filter into undergrow1d streams and re-
plenish the irriga tion water supply in the Wiggins area.

4. We believe the cost of any such darn here at the N<.rrows site would greatly
exceed economical benefits for areas tributary to the South ?latte River.

5. Loss of the l.eldona business tributary to Fort ;.!organ would be irreplaceable.

6. Loss of t3..X )"""~nue by the purchase of this property by the Feclcral Govern-
mer,t would be i.rrej::lacea't,le to the economic welfare of Horgan County.

The First National Bank of Fort l.;organ, as an institution, and the Board of
Direc':,ors, and as directors individually wish to make kno'<m at this time they
ar" opj::osed to the construction of any dam in the Sodh F'latte River in Morgan
,County.

Sincerely yours,

RB:tt

/Si',oyden Grown
Hoyden Brmm
President

.
,
f.

II
