@,1l"-:
2",,'i/ ,j

-16-

usefulness would be to confine its efforts to that end. The resulting benefit to
f, ',ppers of livestoc!(, grain and other agricultural products is very apparent. It
',Q',ud also be of great benefit to industries in the COJllI:1unity including dealers in
:cunber and coal.

The Committee prepared a brochure, a cO~J of which is hereto attached, which was
sent to the r'resident of the Union t'acific Railroad Company. The brochure urged the'
railroad to choose the route into Fort ~organ. It is supported by facts and figures
all of which are self explanatory.

The Committee had several meetings vdth Union Pacifi~ officials and it is our
,understanding the railroad company is convinced that tl1e route into Fort i,lorgan would
be the logical one, both from the standpoint of the community and itself.

The Committee is cognizant of the fact that a large acreage in the fertile 'iieldon
Valley will be destroyed by the building of the J~arrows Dam. Juost of these land millers
have been residents of the valley for many years and practically all of them do their
business in Fort Morgan. If the dam is built the loss of these customers will be
greatly felt by Fort Morgan business men.

The Collllllittee urges that the Colorado ,later Conservation LJoard use its influence
in seeing that new compensating acreage in the immediate area ce made available to the
displaced farmers in the Weldon Valley. :'uch additional acreage "ould help ~ompensate
for loss of taxes in the \'Ieldon Valley and would tend to stabilize the economy of
fort morgan and il:!organ County.

The foregoing statement is made upon the assumption that the location, capacity
and operation of any such dam meets with the approval of our local water interests
and the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

Respectfully submitted,

Ihrion i~. hUson
ill. 1l.Reneg
J.
