\00 (permanent wet grass pastures), mature cottonwood trees, and
~,

willow (type 6 wetlands). While the mallard, and pheasant models

represent multiple covertype users. They utilize wetlands,
~
~ cropland, annual and perennial upland herbaceous cover and in the
~
QQ case of pheasant, woody cover. The multiple covertype species

'help assess interspersion of habitat types. Covertypes used for

the above 'species models include cropland, annual herbaceous

cover, perennial herbaceous cover, orchards/vineyards,

pastureland/hayland, lakes/ponds, palustrine emergent vegetation
(PEM), rivers/streams, rangeland and woody cover.

METHODS

~;) Wildlife Habitat Evaluation And Monitoring
The habitat evaluation procedure (HEP) developed by the u.S.

Fish and Wildlife service is being used to evaluate habitat

quality for the selected wildlife species. Covertype data

collected from individual salinity contracts and monitoririg sites

will,be used to calculate Habitat suitability Indices (HSI) for

the selected wildlife species. HSI models separate basic habitat
needs or relationships to calculate or predict the effects of
vegetative habitat changes on seiected wildlife, species. The

habitat suitability for any wildlife species depends upon life

requisites for that species which may include food, water, cover,
space and seasonal availability of these factors. The HSI is a
numerical index rating which measures the quality of the habitat

suitability for wildlife using an index rating value from 0.0 to
