The reservoir would <br /> <br /> <br />serve as an off-stream storage site. Two reservoir sizes were considered in this Study. Low Wolcott <br /> <br /> <br />would create a reservoir of 160,000 af capacity, supplied only with water pumped .from the Eagle <br /> <br />River, while High Wolcott, 350,000 af capacity, wouid be supplied by pumping from both the Eagle <br /> <br /> <br />and Colorado Rivers. The Colorado River conveyance would include 6.3 miles of tunnel from State <br /> <br />Bridge, Colorado, which is north of the reservoir site. <br /> <br />Una: The Una Dam Site is located on the Colorado River at the Mesa-Garfield county line. It <br /> <br /> <br />lies between the towns of Parachute and DeBeque, Colorado, 35 miles northeast of Grand Junction, <br /> <br /> <br />Colorado. Both dam abutments rise steeply from the 1100-foot wide valley floor. The reservoir <br /> <br />would extend up the Colorado River valley to the town of Parachute. Reservoir capacities <br /> <br />considered at this site ranged from 100,000 af to 196,000 af. <br /> <br />2.2 CONVEYANCE SYSTEM ALTERNATIVE DESCRIPTION <br /> <br /> <br />The conveyance system is the pumpback element of the Green Mountain Exchange Project. <br /> <br />It is a pump and pipeline system that would pump water from Green Mountain Reservoir to Dillo.n <br /> <br />Reservoir. Both reservoirs are located on the Biue River, a tributary to the Colorado River. Green <br /> <br />Mountain Reservoir is located 26 miles downstream of Dillon Reservoir. The difference in water <br /> <br />surface elevation between the iwo reservoirs is 1070 feet. <br /> <br />The Blue River flows from Dillon Reservoir to Green Mountain Reservoir, between the <br /> <br />mountains of the Gore Range to the west and the Williams Fork Mountains to the east. The corridor <br /> <br /> <br />along the river was judged to be the best general location for the conveyance pipeiine because it <br /> <br />provides the shortest route, ready access and crosses the gentlest terrain. Within this corridor, two <br /> <br />alternative routes were considered, the River Valley Route and the Highway Route. In addition a <br /> <br />gravity canal was conceptually evaluated as an alternative. <br /> <br />River Vallev Route - The proposed river valley route parallels the west shore of Green <br /> <br /> <br />Mountain Reservoir and follows the Blue River to Dillon Reservoir. Along this route, the Slue River is <br /> <br /> <br />crossed five times. This alternative presents environmental impacts associated with the removal of <br /> <br /> <br />riparian growth, impacts on fisheries and water quality during the construction of river crossings, <br /> <br /> <br />and soil erosion. It would also present visual impacts due to the removal of vegetation near the river. <br /> <br />2-3 <br />
