This document, which has <br />been included as Attachment C, highlights the amendments as <br />proposed in S. 752. The states are now waiting for a mark-up <br /> <br />session to be scheduled in the Senate and are anxious for <br /> <br />hearings to be held in the House. <br /> <br />The Department of Agriculture determined it would fully <br /> <br />and actively support legislation that would authorize the new <br /> <br /> <br />agriculture program. In addition to testifying in support of <br /> <br />S. 752, the Department of Agriculture requested that legisla- <br /> <br />tion be introduced into the Senate and the House that would <br /> <br />be limited to establishing authority for a Department of <br /> <br />Agriculture Colorado River Basin Salinity Control program. <br /> <br />The House version, H.H. 3903 (Attachment D), was passed by <br /> <br /> <br />the House after hearings in the House Agriculture Committee. <br /> <br /> <br />The Senate version, S. 1842, is waiting hearings in the <br /> <br />Senate Agriculture Committee. <br /> <br />The Advisory Council was very pleased to see the USDA <br />proposed funding levels in the Administration's budget for <br />the agriculture program for FY 84, and urges the Department <br />of Agriculture to request a similar level of funding for FY <br />85.
