.,

..,

IV. Study Area
Gunnison Riyer from Redlands Diversion to Delta, Colorado (RM 3-55).
V. Study Methods/Approach

Conduct extensive sampling using electrofishing, trammel netting, trap
netting, etc. to collect fish. This effort will be combined with the FWS
effort to locate and evaluate previously stocked fish in the Gunnison. This
will not only reduce costs but also minimize sampling effort to accomplish
both objectives.

Compare numbers, length-frequency distribution and location to survey
conducted in the Gunnison ten years ago.

PIT tag and collect tissue for genetic analysis from all adult endangered
fish collected. In addition adult Colorado sQuawfish will be radio-tagged
to monitor movement and evaluate potential spawning activity.

VI. Task Description (FY-1992)

Task 1. Intensively sample adult fish in entire study area of Gunnison
River.

Task 2. PIT tag and collect genetic tissues from all adult endangered
fish.

Task 3. Radio-tag up to 10 adult Colorado sQuawfish (as many of these as
possible from Gunnison River; if adequate numbers not available
collect some Colorado sQuawfish from below Redlands Diyersion and
place upstream.) Track radio-tagged fish.

Task 4. Analyze and evaluate findings, prepare final report.

VII.
