Chapter 2 - Define Water Supply & Water QualitY Needs

Irrigation Facilities

A recent inventory of irrigation facilities lists 84 ditches in the East River Basin.
The major ditches are:

Name

Stream

Decreed Amount in cfs

East River No. 1
East River No.2
Boeker
Oillsworth
Verzuh
Fisher
Lafayette
Verzuh- Young-Bifano
TOTAL

East River
East River
Slate River
Slate River
East River
East River
East River
East River

82.0
44.87
44
43.03
42.5
42.0
40.01
40.25
379.26

The East River No. 1 is the largest ditch in the basin with a decreed amount of 82
cfs (53 MGO) and irrigating more acres than any other ditch in the inventory.
Approximately 11,200 acres are irrigated in the East and Slate River Valleys. The
total amount of water decreed is 259.09 cfs (167 MGD) from the Slate River and
846.616 cfs (547 MGO) from the East River. Records are not kept for all ditches,
but the larger ditches monitored by the Colorado Division of Water Resources
have diverted an average of 88,600 acre-feet annually (7.9 af/acre) over the last
17 years of record. One inconsistency, identified during this study, is that the
Phase I Upper Gunnison-Uncompahgre Basin Study predicted the need for average
diversions of about 28,700 acre-feet or 3.92 af/acre to satisfy the full supply
needs of 7,320 acres of irrigated land in the East River Basin uses.

64

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
