Title: Phase I Feasibility Study for Upper Gunnison-Uncompahgre Basin,
'Task Memorandum No.4, Recreation and Environmental Enhancement
Opportunities.

Prepared by: HOR Engineering, Inc. for Colorado Water Resources and
Power Development Authority, Denver, CO.

Date: 1988

Time of Study: Fall of 1987

Sites: Includes water quality measurements on:
Slate River (SROO)
Slate River (SR01)
East River (ER01)
(sites SR01 and ER01 correspond to sites sampled in the Rumberg study)

Parameters Measured:
pHi Conductivity, DO, Temperature, Aluminum, Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium,
Chromium, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Nickel, Lead,
Selenium, Strontium, Titanium, Zinc

Metals (total) measured at Slate River sites only.

Purpose of Study: This task memorandum provides background data and
describes measures available to improve the existing fisheries and
recreational activities in the area. The memorandum serves as the basis for
providing overall design and methods needed to improve fisheries and
water-based recreational opportunities in order to benefit the economy of
the region. Specifically, descriptions of water quality of the East River and
Slate River are provided on page 7-47 under section 7.3.3. Water quality
.data measured three times in the fall of 1987 are provided on pages G-1
through G-2.

Other aspects of the study:
This study includes physical description, habitat and biology of the East and
Slate Rivers. Opportunities for improving fisheries are also cited. Also
included is a bibliography of water quality studies. A summary in Appendix
F lists those studies contributing to information on specific parameters for a
particular stream (see pp. F-1 through F'24).

26

I

I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
