ASSIGNMENT OF WORK (Cont'd)

Mosquito Control and Allied Problema.

a. Stat~nt: The objectives of this part of the report are to
present the existing problems of mosquitoes and other pests of public
health importance, to determine the inter-effects of water resources
develor~ents and these problems, and to recommend baSic procedures for
prevention and control. The steps toward these aimB will be as follows:

(1) Assemble and analyze records of health departments and
other agencies to determine:

(a) Environmental considerations, such as climate,
physiogr'aphy, hydrology, and vegetation.

(b) Human populatiOns: D~stribution, occupation, eco-
nomic conditions.

(c) Mosquito populations: Species distribution, densities,

importancs.

(d) Malaria incidence, significance, and vectors.

(e) Encephalitides incidence, significance, vectors, and
reservoirs of infection (such as birds).

(f) Other mosquito-borne diseases.
(g) Allied problems of pests and disease vectors.

(2) Supplement existing information with field investigations
in selected areas, with emphasis on distribution of important pests,
vectors and reservoirs of disease.

()) Analyze possible effects of water resources developments

through:

(a) Environmental changss due to water storage, transpor-
tation and utilization.

(b) Changes in relation of mosquito and human populations
due to increasss, decreases and movements.

(c)
borne diseases.

Increase or decrease of endemic or introduced vector-

IV-2l
