Power Repayment Study

Results of the power repayment study for
fiscal year 1975 are depicted in the graph
on page 35. Estimated annual power revenues
are shown together with their application.
Total revenues for the period shown exceed
$3.4 billion. After repayment of about $800
million for the power investment and
replacements and $300 million for interest,
power revenues should be sufficient to
repay about $100 million in irrigation costs
plus around $1.0 billion in costs of
participating projects.

Following are explanatory notes on the
terms used on the graph. Copies of the
power repayment study in a highly detailed
form can be obtained upon request.

30

Power Repayment Study

Operating Expenses

Annual costs of power and salinity control
operation and maintenance, energy
purchases, wheeling by others, and the
purchase of energy to replace the deficiency
in Hoover power plant generation caused by
storage project operations, In past years,
energy purchases for fuel conservation are
shown as an operating expense and the
revenues from energy sales for fuel con-
servation are included in the gross revenues.
In future years, energy purchases for fuel
conservation are not shown, but are netted
out of the revenues.

Replacemenls

Payments made on power replacements,
with the highest interest-bearing component
(whether replacements or other power
investment) being paid first.

Power Inlerest Paymenls

Annual interest on the unpaid power
investment.

Power Principal Paymenls

Payments made on the power investment,
with the highest interest-bearing com-
ponent (whether power investment or
replacement) being paid first.

Slorage Unillrrigation Principal Payments

Power revenues which are applied toward
payment of the irrigation allocation of the
storage units and the construction cost
of salinity control projects, the major portion
(about $78 million, or 79 percent) of such
costs being repaid from power revenues,
with the remainder (about $21 million, or
21 percent) being repaid from M&I
water revenues.

Power Revenues Available lor Irrigation
Assistance to Participating Projects

Power revenues available after the above
costs have been paid, the amount of which
will be about $1 ,035 million through year
2050. A lesser amount (about $30 million,
or 3 percent of the total available) will also
be provided from M&I water revenues.
