"

,
y

November 1973

Status Report Plan

-----------

neformulation studies prior to OMB's curtailment of AP funds expanded
the Indian acreage from 1,500 to 3,055 acres. These lands are shown
on Map #2. In addition, 1,000 acre-feet of M&I water would be delivered
to the Indian reservation boundary and a recreation reservoir would
be included on Chimney Rock Draw near highway intersections of 160
and 666. The recreation reservoir was to be a companion feature of the
Indians current plans to develop the Mancos Canyon historical ruins.

Reclamation personnel worked closely with BIA representatives in
selecting the reservoir site and in verifying the irrigability of
the additional lands.

MVI enlargement costs associated with the expanded development were
estimated to be $450,000 which was significantly greater than the
costs 'associated with the l,500 E,cres in which only bottlenecks had
to be eliminated. Capacity requirement for the expanded acreage is 60
second-feet which is considered a maximum that could be delivered by
enlargement of the MYI facilities.

Cursory economic incremental studies were made to determine if the
additional Indian lands were justified. These studies showed the
addition~ were marginal.
