<br />INTRODUCTION
<br />
<br />The Calarada River;starage praject and participating prajects were
<br />initiallyautharized by'the Cangress on April 11, 1956 (70 Stat, 105),
<br />This act initiated the camprehensive develapment 'If the water
<br />resaurcesaf the Upper; Calarada River Basin far the purl.'ases, amang-
<br />athers, 'If regulating t4e flaw 'If the Calarada River, starmg water far
<br />beneficial cansumptiv~ use, making it passible far the States 'If the
<br />upper basin ta utilize,:cansistent with the pravisians 'If the Calarado
<br />River campact, the appartianments made ta and amang them in the
<br />Calarada River campaQt and the Upper Calarada River Basin campact,
<br />Canstructian 'If the praject began in 1956 and nawafter 7 years the
<br />Navaja Dam is substantially camplete, the Flaming Garge and Glen
<br />Canyan Dams and pawerplants are nearing campletian, the Curecanti
<br />unit and the transmis~ion system are naw under eanstructian. Par-
<br />ticipating prajects sub~tantially campleted are the Hammand, Paania,
<br />Srmth Fark, and the V;ernal unit 'If the Central Utah prajec~, Naw
<br />under canstructian ar~ the Emery Caunty, Flarida, and Seedskadee
<br />prajeets, Autharized (prajects, but nat yet under canstr, uctian ,.ire
<br />the Central Utah initial (except Vernal unit), Lyman, Silt, Navajo
<br />Indian irrigatian, amI San Juan-Chama prajects, Favarable feasi-
<br />bility reparts have been campleted an the fallawing prajects: Animas-
<br />LaPlata, Bastwick pa;rk, Dalares, Fruitland Mesa, and Savery-Pat
<br />Haak, '

<br />Central Utah praject Was returned ta the U.S. Treasury, This year

<br />River storage praject llind the Hammand and Smith Fark participating
<br />prajects. A pawer aperatians affice was established at Mantrase,
<br />Cala, This affice will/handle the future aperatiaIlh and m~ntenance
<br />'If the cambined generating and intercannected pawer ,transmissian
<br />facilities 'If the Calarada River starage praject. "
