Project Title:

Floodplain Delineation of the 50-year and I DO-year Floodplains within Designated Critical
Habitat of the Upper Colorado River Basin

II. Principal Investigator:

Brian Hyde
Colorado Water Conservation Board
I313 Sherman St., Room 721
Denver, CO 80203

Phone:
FAX:

(303) 866-3441
(303) 866-4474

m. Project Summary:

Results of this study will provide floodplain information for stream segments within
designated critical habitat in Colorado to agencies, municipalities, development entities
and private citizens for use in planning and meeting Section 7 and NEPA-related
requirements regarding the endangered fishes of the Upper Colorado River basin. The
study area is four river segments designated as "critical habitat" for the endangered fishes,
which include the Yampa River from the upstream limit of Dinosaur National Monument
upstream to Craig (approximately 65 miles); the White River from the Utah-Colorado
state line upstream to Rio Blanco Reservoir (approximately 50 miles); the Colorado River
mainstem from the Utah-Colorado state line upstream to Rifle (approximately 95 miles);
and the Gunnison River from its confluence with the Colorado River upstream to its
confluence with the Uncompahgre River (approximately 60 miles), The total number of
stream miles is approximately 270 miles.

IV. Study"Schedule:

Because this study was an add on, field surveying of cross-sections began in November
1994. The cross-sectional and flood hydrologic analyses have been completed.
Preliminary hydraulic analyses have been started. All work will be completed by
September 30, 1995. Funds for FY 1994 will be used,

V. Relationship to RIPRAP:

RIPRAP Item IILB.2., Page 24 - "Implement Interim Nonnative Fish Stocking"

1
