~

.

.
;:

.()~;.-
" . vJ
t.. V

Transportation Facilities

No problems are anticipated in getting access to jobsites for
construction of the Narrows Dam and Reservoir since virtually all
construction areas are readily accessible from existing public
thoroughfare s.

Rail terminals and haul roads accessible to the Narrows Dam
site are shawn on exhibit 2. Major shipping terminals in the area
on the Union Pacific and the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroads
are l'espectively at the north and south sides of the city of Fort
Morgan. Both terminals are within an average haul distance of eight
miles from the damsite. The Union Pacific Railroad has a beet dump
siding at the Narrows Station located on the north side of the river
immediately upstream from the damsite. It may be advisable to con-
struct additional siding track at this station to facilitate unloading
material and equipment for Narrows Dam. The Burlington Railroad has
a terminal at Wiggins which is within an average haul distance of
13 miles from the damsite and a beet dump siding at Griffin Station
within an average haul distance of six miles.

Housing and Community Facilities

The construction headquarters office probably will be located
at Fort Morgan, Colorado. Adequate housing and community facilities
are available at Fort Morgan, Brush, and other communities within
reasonable commuting distance.

A field office will be requIred near Narrows Dam during
constructIon of this feature.

Land Acquisition and Right-of-vlay

Land acquisition requirements for all purposes for Narrows Dam
and Reservoir will require the acquisition of 34,116 acres of lands
by fee title and 2,130 acres of l&nds by flowage easerrent, The
fee title requirement ..auld comprise 26,930 acres of lands for
reservoir multiple purpose use, 856 acres for relocations, find an
additional 6,330 acres ..hich would be needed to rr,eet present and
future requirements for recreation and fisb Bnd ..ildlif" purposes.
The latter lands, consisting of 2,810 acres for recreation purposes
and 3,520 acres for fish and ..ildlife pllrposes were requested and
justified by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Sport
Fisheries and Wildlife.

6
