<br />(' .., ~ , ./ <br /> <br />8 Chapter 1.0 Purpose of and Need for Action <br /> <br />The AMWG recommendation was transmitted to the Secretary of the Interior on July 1, <br />2002. The TWG discussed the Proposed Action during its meetings on August 15-16, <br />2002. Reclamation and the other joint lead agencies subsequently developed this EA and <br />BA. <br /> <br />1.4.2 Tribal Consultations <br /> <br />Consultations with the Hopi Tribe, Navajo Nation, Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians, <br />Shivwits Band of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, Pueblo of Zuni, and Hualapai Tribe <br />occurred during the meetings of the GCDAMP. Government-to-government <br />consultation meetings with the Hopi Tribe, Hualapai Tribe, and Kaibab and Shivwits <br />Bands of Paiute Indians were held during August and September 2002. <br /> <br />1.4.3 Park Concessionaires <br /> <br />Presentations on the Proposed Action were made during meetings with the Lees <br />Ferry fishing guides. Grand Canyon River Guides were involved in planning the <br />Proposed Action through meetings of the GCDAMP. <br /> <br />1.4.4 Public Meetings <br /> <br />The Proposed Action was described at meetings about the Annual Operating Plan <br />for reservoirs in the Colorado River Basin, which include representatives of the seven <br />Colorado River Basin States (Basin States) and others during the Annual Operating Plan <br />process. Public comments and the distribution of this document for review are designed <br />to provide an opportunity for additional public involvement. <br /> <br />Meetings to inform the public of the Proposed Action and seek input will be held on <br />October 2, 2002, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and on October 3, 2002, in Phoenix, Arizona. <br />
