b.

I
I
I
natural conditions early in the season or to Patch worn spots
at key locations. During heavy snow year$, when only a
mininal amount of snCMrnaking would be used, Imore water will
be produced from the natural snow pack than ~uring dry years
when much snow making is required. OITerall, I snowmaking will
not produce significant increases in water prqauction.

I
I
I
I
The proponent has 22.6 cubic feet per second I (cfs) in surface
flow water rights (primarily in l2 irrigatio~ ditches) in the
West Fork and tributaries, and two conditional well water
rights in the alluvium of the West Fork. Tt)e Water Use Plan
of Augmentation (W.B. Schroeder, D.C. Hallford, and T.S.
Sullivan; 1984) was approved on November 26, i 1984 in District
Water Court, District Seven. The augmentation plan proposes
to change 649 acre-feet of existing lconsumptive use
associated with nine ditches to a range of uses including
domestic, commercial, irrigation, fire prot~ction, and other
beneficial uses. I
!
The Augmentation Plan considers the historical water
"depletion" associated with the nine ditches that is
available for use, and carefully coordinaBes diversion and
storage to maintain Colorado Water Conserv~tion Board (ONCB)
instream flow needs for the West Fork of t1-Je San Juan River.
The plan includes two off-channel (100 I acre feet each)
reservoirs (Wolf Creek Reservoirs 1 a~d 2) to store
consunptive use water not required to replace depletions.
Some alternate points of diversion are plantled for several of
the proponent's surface flow rights. I
i
The water for the base area will be p~ovided through a
central municipal water system from wells.1 Golf course and
pasture irrigation will be provided from di~ches. Streamflow
increases in the West Fork from "'.ay through September are
anticipated as base area water use will hot be as large as
historic irrigation. I
!

Water Uses

(l)

Alternative One

(2) Alternatives Two and Three

,
I
In addition to the water uses in Alternati~e One, artificial
snowmaking would be included in the augmen~ation plan. About
l49 acres have been identified for possible coverage with
man-made snow which would be prOlTided th~ough a combination
of the structures to be augmented (storag~s, diversions, and
wells). The total arrount of water requirec;'l for such a system
is dependent on weather conditions, terr4in irregularities,
depth of coverage, and system efficiency.
