The rural popula-

tion in the area includes approximately 20,000 people. More than 1, 000 taps

have been applied for the domestic water system at this time and each of the

taps have deposited $125, 00 towards the construction of the domestic water

system.

An electi0n was held on July 16, 1968, on the question of whether the

District shollld be authorized to issue $3,900,000.00 worth of bonds to construct

the system. The people voting included all of the residents in the area includ-

ing all municipalities except the City of Ouray. The issue was approved by

the vote of I, 512 in favor and 313 against, demonstrating the support of the

entire area for the project. Unquestionably the project is neerled, is necessary,

is in the public interest and should be supported by the Depari ment of Housing

a nd Urban Development.
