FOREWORD <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />labor force of California is in Los Angeles County, and that <br />approximately 54 per cent of all persons attached to manufactur- <br />ing in the State are in this area. <br /> <br />I, <br />" <br /> <br />Construction <br /> <br />Bond fund expenditures for construction during the fiscal year <br />were in connection with the building under contract of the exten- <br />sion of the Orange County pipe line to Coastal Municipal Water <br />District, including the Corona del Mar reservoir. All construction <br />work on this pipe line was complete iu April 1944. <br /> <br />l <br />I. <br />i, <br />~,' <br />l: <br /> <br />Use of Colurado River luater <br /> <br />In the past fiscal year the District constituents which obtained <br />practically their entire water supply from the Colorado River <br />aqueduct were Santa Monica during the entire twelve months, <br />Laguna Beach and South Laguna following completion of the <br />Orange County pipe line extension in February, and Santa Ana in <br />May and June 1944 on a trial basis without charge for water, as <br />authorized by the District Board of Directors. The member cities <br />which called for water as necessary to augment their existing local <br />sources of supply were Beverly Hills. Burbank. Compton, Fullerton. <br />Long Beach, Los Angeles and Torrance. Softened filtered Colorado <br />River water also was delivered to the U. S. Army Hospital near <br />Spadra in Los Angeles Connty. The delivery of softened water <br />by the District varied between a low of 11.8 cubic feet pel' second in <br />February 1944, and a high of 39.4 cubic feet per second in June <br />1944. The average for the fiscal year was 23.4 c.f.s.. or 15,111,000 <br />gallons per day.
