00C598

-2-
krk. River at Rolly,Extrame Inscharges Jan. & Feb.,1910 Cont'd.

A miscellaneous measurement was also made on the Arkansas River

at La Junta on January 23, 1910 showing a discharge of 635 second-feet.

The original official record in the State Engineer's office gives

a discharge of 700 second-feet for January 23, 1910. For the day before

and the day following discharges of more than 4,000 second-feet are giv-

en. The 700 second-foot quantity corresponds with the wBasurement made

by Thomas Grieve on January 22nd. Mr. Grieve also noted ice conditions

in January. The previous and following discharges are, therefore, ap-

parently in error, including all figures back to December 31, 1909 and

the figures after January 23rd to about Februa'J' 18th or 19th.

A summary of s-tream flows in the Arkansas drainage was made by

-the sta-te Engineer's office in 1926. The attached copy of the Rolly

record of this summary shows the record for the months of January and

Februar~l', 1910 very greatly modified~ The corrected values are fairly

high, but the analysis of the Monthly Weather Review, copy of which

is attached, shaws above normal precipitation and snowfall for the months

of November and December, 1909. The values shO\m on this summary are al-

so in line with the Pueblo and Canon City records for this year, which

are considerably above normal.

,Notes in red pencil on the original official record in the State

Engineer's office indicate that no correction for ice conditions had

been made. The figure 15,000 acre-feet for January, 1910 and 13,000

acre-feet for february, 1910 are given. in pencil. These notations in

red are initialed"R.I.~, and are presumably.those of R. I. Meeker.
