Lake Havasu [Colorado River]

1.", ...
Parker Ol!IIm .pllllng In 1983.

Walar Yaar 1983
At the beginning ot water yeer 1983, the water
level of Lake Havasu, Impounded by Parker
Dam, was at elevation 447 feet with an active
.torage ot approximately 560,000 acre-teet.
The reservoir was drawn down to
epproxlmately elevation 445 teet, with an
active storage of about 525,000 acre-feet In
January to provide vacant space for runoff
from the drainage area between Davis and
Parker Dams. The water level was then raised
to an approximate elevation of 450 teet by the
end of May, with an active storage of about
609,000 acre-teet. By the end ,of the water
year, Lake Hav88u was drawn down to about
446 leet.wlth an,actlve storage,ot 541 ,000
acre-feet.

During the water year I approximately
13,782,000 acre-feet were released at Parker
Dam, of which approximately 10,269,000
acre-feet passed through the turbines for
power production. The total release amount
Included flood control releases trom Alamo
Dam on the Bill Williams Rlvar.

Space In tha top 10 teet of Lake Havasu (about
180,000 acre-teet) I. reserved by the Unltad
States tor control of floods and other uses,
Including river regulation. Normally, only
about the top 4 teet, or 77 ,000 acre-teet ot
space, have been ussd tor this purpose since
the Alamo Reservoir on tha Bill Williams
River has been In operation.

20

Water Year 1984
Lake Hav8su Is scheduled at the highest levels
consistent with the requirements for
maintaining reservoir regulation space. The
yearly low elevation of approximately 446 feet
Is scheduled tor the November through
February high flood hazard period. The yearly
high ot about 450 leet Is scheduled for tha low
flood hazard month. of May and Juna. During
water yea, 1984, a total olapproxlmately 14.9
million acre-feet Is scheduled to be released
from lake Havasu to meet all downstream and
flood control requirements. Of that total,
approximately 12.3 million acre-feet are
scheduled to pas. through the Parkar
powerplant.

~=-- :~'~.~;-"'7~r-':-~~r-:--:'~-:~__ i_>~.....~_n-l

,,-.

. - n'.'___ ,
,': :,'--"':', '
~- .??_~~~,'<~~~2~.~~
'"...~,' "-'
';~;':"-l
'- I
, , \:
. ..~
';~;;'?!,~',',.~.',:::
,~'.. ~,
: (","-;
;';~.:'ld;
- ":;,,.
I) '. - I
..,>'-'~ ':l!

, ,', i
.~" ,
'_;:~-';f ~_
,~;;>,~.,l' .':,
. -'\i"""-
"-';~~~d

"\;:'~>;,~';,/>-i>: '

': ~ -
'.,-

DraInage pump.

Leke Havasu Active Storage"

Reservoir (Acre-Feet)

Maximum Storage 619,400
Rated Head 619,400
Minimum Power 439,400
Surface Area (Full) 20,400 Acres
Reservoir Length
(Full) 35 Miles

Power Plant
Number of Units
Total Capacity

Chart 8
EI.(Ft.)

450.0
450.0
440.0

4
120,000 Kilowatts

.does nOllnclude 28,600 acre-feet or dead storage
belo..... 400.0 feet
