o
<::,)
l)
(.j)

\..~ :

WATER YIELD OF GREEN MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR: Releases from Green Mountain

Reservoir are required for out-of-priority CST Project diversions, to supplement natural flows

thereby meeting in-basin irrIgation and municipal demands, and for water sales. These release

requirements were estimated to range from 20,000 to 118,000 aflyr depending on hydrologic

conditions In a given year. If the release requirements are assumed to be constant from year to year,

the reservoir has a firm-yield capability of 144,000 af/yr. If 52,000 af were reserved as a CBT

replacement pool, then 92,000 af/yr would be available as firm yield from the remaining power pool.

-.J

RESERVOIRS

Design features of each of six reservoirs considered for this study are described below.

Descriptive and dimensional data are provided in Table S.2. Information from the following studies

was drawn upon in the design and analyses: "Wolford Mountain Reservoir Project, Feasibility Study",

(Western, 1983); "Report on the Feasibility Investigations, Rock Creek Dam Project", (Morrison-

Knudsen Engineers, 1986); "Preliminary Report of Geotechnical Investigation of Wolford Mountain

Site A', Red Mountain Site and the Conveyance System Route", (Chen, 1986); "Azure Project, Definite

Project Report", (IECO, 1983); "Eagle-Piney/Eagle-Colorado Water Study", (Parsons, et al., 1974); and

"Una Reservoir Project", (Beck and Associates, 1982).

,~.

WOLFORD MOUNTAIN SITE A' DAM AND RESERVOIR: Wolford Mountain Site A' is located
1.5 miles north of Kremmling and is one of two sites on Muddy Creek. Alternative Site C Is located
3.8 miles further upstream.

Site A' Dam would be constructed across a 500-foot wide valley eroded into sandstone and
claystone shale. Based on the foundation conditions and the materials potentially available at the
site for dam construction, a modified homogeneous earthfill dam design has been selected. A
concrete-lined ungated overflow spillway would be located on the left abutment.

Increased Yield With Colorado River Diversion: The yield of Wolford Mountain A' Reservoir

on Muddy Creek can be supplemented by pumping from the Colorado River. The pipeline route to

the reservoir Is 20,600 feet long Including 5700 feet of tunnel. Pumps would be capable of reverse

flow for power generation from reservoir releases. Power revenues could offset about 20 percent of

the pumping costs.

" ,~

8

',J
