<br />EVAPORATION AND PRECIPITATION
<br />
<br />The last paragraph of Article VI of the Compact states, in par~ - 'such credits and debils shall be reduced annually to compensate
<br />for evaporation losses in the proportion that such credits or debits bear to the total amount of water in such reservoirs during the year.'
<br />
<br />To provide the data needed for the computation of such evaporation losses, the Commission has encouraged the establishment and
<br />operation of evaporation stations near each major reservoir in the basin and at other selected locations.
<br />
<br />Evaporation and other climatological data coliected at the several stations in Colorado and New Mexico are tabulated on the next
<br />page. At some of the stations, it was not possibie to obtain evaporation records throughout the winter period.
<br />
<br />The measurements of evaporation were made in accordance with standard practice for the type of pan in use. Measurements of
<br />precipItation were made in standard B-inch rain gages, which Were supplemented at SOme of the stations by recording rain gages.
<br />
<br />Records for the evaporation stations at the State Universliy, Elephant Butte Dam, and EI Vado Dam antedated the creation of the
<br />'Commission; the stations at Abiquiu Dam, Cochlti Dam, and Jemez Canyon Dam Were established by the Corps of Engineers. AIi
<br />others were established at the request of the Commission.
